About the Artist

Over 71% of this earth's living space is ocean, which is inhabited by plants and animals. Even more importantly, over half of the world's population lives within 60 miles of a coastline. Largely populated areas have threatened our local ecosystems causing an increase in pollution and marine habitat destruction. These factors are severely impacting the Coastline's ability to sustain itself.

Jacinda Hames was born and raised in the coastal communities of Vancouver Island. It is the beauty of our local marine habitat, and the patterns and textures of Canada's coastline that inspire her work. These elements were explored and stylized in many different types of media during her studies at NSCAD University. Much of her creative vision comes from Scuba diving and beachcombing. On these journeys, various local materials like sand, rocks and shells are collected. These local materials are broken down, incorporated into the ceramics, and multiple fired. These unique multiple fired ceramic creations are handcrafted and one of a kind.
